Our Initiatives
Seed Banks
Food security and nutrition based on traditional systems and community wisdom for Pahadiya communities residing in Jharkhand.
The practice of saving seeds has been followed by farmers for centuries. By conserving diverse local varieties of seeds, they reduce the risk of crop failure, enrich biodiversity and ensure food security.
Facilitating access to quality seeds, community owned seed banks, contribute to self-reliance and food sovereignty. Supporting three women’s collectives, Navriti is encouraging the establishment of seed banks. Currently four seed banks within four Gram Panchayats are catering to 1324 Pahariya households.
PREVENTION OF FORCED LABOUR
A community led model for prevention of forced labour
Navriti is partnering with Ideal Youth for Revolutionary Changes (IYRC), a youth collective set up by young people in Kapashera, Delhi.
An ‘Informal urban Settlement’ Kapashera is home to thousands of migrants who come to cities in search of a better future. With most working as informal labour in garment manufacturing industries/export companies, Kapas’ (Cotton) is intimately interlinked with the destiny of Kapashera.
Working with Satrang – Forum theatre, Navriti is educating adolescents to highlight solutions to social issues in their area as well as promote rights of informal workers. Attracting a large audience, Satrang has emerged as an empowering space for young people where they discuss issues, deepen their understanding and design street theatre to educate communities. The group has performed plays on diverse subjects such as worker’s rights, domestic violence, sexual harassment, health & hygiene etc.
